Music to spark a better life for older adults and preschoolers

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is fast approaching.   There aren’t many songs tied to the holiday unlike the patriotic songs of the fourth of July or the carols of Christmas.  Most music associated with Thanksgiving is hymns which  are also sung at other times of the year.  Oh, yes, there are a few standards such as “Over the River and Through the Woods”.  Popular music has brought songs such as “Turkee (All Night Long)” by the Black Eyed Peas and Arlo Guthrie’s “Alice’s Restaurant”.  My thanksgiving favorites have no lyrics.  Vince Guaraldi’s “Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Theme” brings memories of watching this Thanksgiving classic.  The second is George Winston’s “Thanksgiving”.  This beautiful song takes my thoughts to places of beauty.  You can enjoy this selection at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDq0HqHXuq0&feature=related .

I wish you a Thanksgiving filled with blessings experienced and recalled.  May it spark an appreciation the things in life that have little or no cost: a hug, a smile, the song of a bird, the beating of your heart.
